What does the Recent Clips tile do?
The tile opens Clipboard’s recent clips popup over the app you are using. Tap a saved text item to put it on the system clipboard; the popup closes, and you can paste into your text field. It saves the trip through the full Clipboard app when you only need a recent snippet.
This tile belongs to the Clipboard app. Android does not provide one universal clipboard history tile on every phone, and a keyboard’s clipboard panel is a separate feature. The Recent Clips tile gives you a way to reach Clipboard’s saved items from the notification shade.
How to add a clipboard tile to Android Quick Settings
- Install or update Clipboard on Google Play, then open the app.
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to expand Quick Settings. You may need a second swipe to see the full panel.
- Open the tile editor. Depending on your phone, this may be a pencil icon, an Edit button, or an option in a menu.
- Find Recent Clips among the available tiles and add it to your active panel.
- Move it to a position you can reach easily, then close the editor.
Tile editing varies by Android version and phone manufacturer. Google’sQuick Settings instructionsexplain the standard controls; your phone’s labels may differ.
Allow the recent clips popup to appear
Tap Recent Clips. If Clipboard needs permission to display over other apps, Android opens the relevant settings screen. Allow that permission for Clipboard, then return and tap the tile again. The popup needs this permission to show its list over another app. If your phone is locked, unlock it when prompted.
Displaying a popup and continuously monitoring copied text are separate capabilities. Adding the tile does not remove Android’s background clipboard restrictions. You can use Clipboard without enabling its optional accessibility-based monitoring; save the snippets you want to keep and check that they appear in the app.
Copy a recent clip, then paste it into your current app
Try this with a product link, a meeting location, or a reusable reply. First save the text in Clipboard. Open your messaging or email app and place the cursor where you want the text. Expand Quick Settings, tap Recent Clips, and select the saved item. Once the popup closes, long-press the text field and choose Paste.
Selecting a clip copies it; it does not automatically insert it into every app. Keeping paste as a separate step lets you choose the destination. For a snippet you use often but cannot find among recent items, open the full app and search yourclipboard history.
Troubleshooting: missing tile, missing popup, or missing text
- The tile is missing: update Clipboard and check the inactive tiles in the Quick Settings editor. The tile label is Recent Clips, rather than Clipboard History.
- Tapping opens a permission screen: allow Clipboard to display over other apps, then try the tile again.
- A copied item is missing: check whether it was saved in the full app. The popup cannot recover text that was overwritten before Clipboard saved it.
- The item did not appear in your message: return to the text field and use Paste after choosing the clip.
